What is an ACES Certificate?

Answer:

IdenTrust ACES certificates are digital legal ID's. Like a driver's license or passport can be used to identify an individual in a face-to-face transaction, an ACES certificate can be used to identify an individual in an online transaction. Because an ACES certificate issued to you by IdenTrust represents your legal Identity, it cannot be shared and is non-transferrable.

There are two types of ACES certificate:
  1. ACES Business Representative: This certificate is issued to individuals who will be using the certificate to act on behalf of their company
  2. ACES Individual: This certificate is issued to those individuals who will be using the certificate to act on their own behalf
ACES Certificates are used by government contractors to access government websites. To make sure that the ACES certificate is right for you, please check with the government agency or system that asked you to obtain the certificate.

Your ACES Certificate is valid for two years. Starting at 90 days before your certificate expires, we will start sending you notice letting you know it's time to renew the certificate. Remember, if the certificate expires it will no longer be eligible for renewal. If the account expires you can simply apply for a new account.
